The heart-pounding, fast-breaking action of college basketball is back when the 2013 FirstEnergy Mid-American Conference Tournament returns to Quicken Loans Arena March 13th-16th! Celebrating 14 years of MAC basketball action in Cleveland, eight of the 12 schools that make up the Mid-American Conference will send men’s and women’s teams to The Q to battle for the MAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Men’s opening round tournament games will begin on campus sites Monday, March 11th for seeds No. 6 – No. 11, while women’s opening round tournament games will begin on campus sites Saturday, March 9th for seeds No. 5 – No. 12. The top five seeds on the men’s side will receive a bye to Cleveland, as Toledo is not eligible for this year’s men’s tournament.
Then the #MACtion comes to Quicken Loans Arena! This four-day tournament will showcase the best of the best in men’s and women’s college basketball with second round matchups on Wednesday, March 13th, third round games on Thursday, March 14th and semifinals on Friday, March 15th. Three days will feature two afternoon women’s games and two evening men’s contests. The men’s and women’s championship games will be played on Saturday, March 16th.

The tournament will also bring fans together for the ultimate pep rally as MAC FanFest returns to Tower City Center! Throughout the 2013 tournament, MAC FanFest is FREE and open to the public to allow fans the opportunity to meet and greet cheerleaders, mascots and bands from their favorite MAC schools and participate in activities including free throw contests, cornhole contests, tattoo booths, interactive inflatables and more!
The 2013 FirstEnergy MAC Men’s Tournament will be televised on SportsTime Ohio Wednesday, March 13th through Friday, March 15th, with the men’s championship game televised nationally on ESPN2 on Saturday, March 16th at 6:30 p.m. Fans on the go can still tune in to MAC coverage on WKNR ESPN Cleveland 850 AM. The MAC Women’s Tournament semifinals and championship game will also be broadcast live on SportsTime Ohio and WKNR, with the Women’s Championship game taking place on Saturday, March 16th at 1 p.m.
In the 2012 men’s championship game, No. 3 seeded Ohio earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by surpassing No. 1 Akron, 64-63. In the 2012 women’s championship game, the No. 2 seeded Eastern Michigan Eagles defeated the No. 5 seed Central Michigan Chippewas to win the title, 72-71, and clinched a spot in the NCAA Women’s Tournament.
